EARTH FIGHTS BACK: JAPAN TSUNAMI

It is hard not to watch TV these days and it is even harder to believe  that what you see on the screen is for real. We are only beginning to understand the extent of Japan tragedy. It is a true nightmare and even if we can watch it unfold before our eyes on TV, we can't imagine how it must have been like there, on the streets, in the houses of people, etc. While watching one cannot help remembering the incredible tragedy in 2004, in Sumatra and wonder: IS IT EARTH STRIKING BACK? Personally, I I have a feeling that we will see such sights more often in the future as virtually all the cities near a coast are exposed. San Francisco, New York, L.A could be next. We have Constanta, Mangalia, etc. Let us pray to God something like this will not happen to us but I can't help wondering how long will Earth put up with us? It is people who have destroyed this wonderful planet and now it seems that Earth fights back. That's the price we must pay for having altered Mother Nature. And it is a huge price when it is measured in dead people.
Let us not remember The Huge Tsunami in 2004. The death toll was a staggerring 250 000 people (I don't know if you were aware of this!!). Man has tormented this wonderful planet in ways we just can’t imagine and tragedies like Chernobyl disaster in 1984 are the reason why there are so many cases of incurable diseases these days!

Here are two of the most shocking videos I have ever watched in my life. It shows what happens to Earth during an underground nuclear test. No wonder Earth fights back now!

And here’s a reminder of 2004 Sumatra tsunami

  1. The earth just does what It did since the first day of It's existence. It can't be only milk and honey.

  2. I'm afraid that I agree with Adelin. This type of disasters happened from the beginning, only that there was no one to recorded it and the population number was abnormally small compared to nowadays. The only possible way to realize the extent of some natural disasters that are millions or thousands of years old would be to read the signs that the landscapes/sediments are offering. Yes, it is quite a large natural disaster and it will take years till the areas affected will back to normal, but we can't really say the Earth is fighting back. And in our country seeing that the most prone area for earthquakes is Vrancea is unlikely a tsunami will happen. Other natural disasters, like floods, would be a normal thing. Too bad our country sucks at evaluating the hazard risk some areas have, and also failing at preparing a good action plan in case of a natural hazard/disaster. At least that's my opinion based on what I've learned and read at university. (Physical geographer here)

  5. I'm very shocked by all what happened in Japan lately!Every person from Japan lost a son,a daughter, grandchildren or a husband or worse, all the loved ones....we realy learned something by all what happened there? We appreciate now all we have? Now we fear God?Who are we to decide what is good or wrong?or who should live or die?we are just ordinary people who should fear God...we should!
Recent events occurring in Japan, make me think at our true values,to the important things that realy counts in life...because money cann't bought life or a family!Money can not defeat death!
We must be aware that we are all mortal and that such things its beyond our control!
All we can do is pray and maybe God will listen our thoughts if we are truly sincere, maybe this is the first step to make things better this time...
    God bless Japan!

  6. Be correct in what you're saying.. "every person from Japan lost a son, a daughter..'? Tokyo alone has a population of almost 40 million people, and this disaster didn't happened in Tokyo. And no, I disagree, we can do much more than pray. We can have a look at our country and the natural hazards that happen every summer. Most of the damage can be avoided.. but then again, no one it's doing nothing really.

  7. Judging by my life experience, for us to do something, as E. said we need to do, all it needs is a huge natural hazard, not just some minor floods. A huge terrorist attack will be good as well. Even though we're a smart nation, we're also a damn lasy one.

  8. (Every person from Japan lost a son,a daughterIt... is only a way to say...)
I agree with you E.,but tell me,when there are so many deads,it stands in our hands to bring them back?I agree with you, because most of the damage can be avoided...but we really understand our responsibilities?if the answer is'yes''then why this episodes repet over and over again?in my opinion isn't important how many people are dead(it can be one person or 10000 people)it is more important that a soul left this world, a person who left behind a family,children...a man who was innocent, that didn't deserve to die...
And what is more sad is that we need 'a disaster'to do something...how many disasters occurred before, but still we haven't done something to change our bad habits and make sure we will not repeat the same mistakes in future...
My opinion is that when people challenge the nature, when they believe that they are gods,no one can save them-only God can!
    I agree with Adelin :we're a smart nation,but we're also a damn lasy one...thanx for your
    opinion!take care...

  9. I just love it when students disagree in a constructive way! :) I think all of you are right, more or less. The problem is PRIDE, Ana is right about it! When people believe they are greater than God, or when they actually fear no God, then they don't give a damn about the others. Unless you have wise and responsible people to govern a country (instead of a bunch of thieves and criminals, like in Romania) you will always be at the mercy of nature! I don't think we are a nation of lazy people, Romanians just have lazy and corrupt leaders and tend to follow the pattern! Thanks everybody for posting their opinions here! May God help Japan and the world!

  10. I'm afraid that I disagree with You, teacher. This thing with the politicians, saying that they do nothin' good for this country, is just an example of that pride You were sayin' about in the beginnin' of your comment. We're too proud to take responsability for something. We're as much guilty as the politicians are. But, that's not we should talk about in this article.

  11. I guess you are just more optimistic than me Adelin, but it's all right, you are young, it is normal! :) As far as I am concerned I long ago ceased to believe that Romanian politicians are working for this people! I may be proud like you say (in judging them) but at least I am trying to help the others...
