THE GREATEST BAND ON EARTH

One band. ONE LOVE. ONE LIFE. ONE BLOOD. Four people. One family. U2. The greatest band on the planet. The best entertainers. At least to me.   BONO (on his real name Paul David Hewson), THE EDGE (on his real name David Howell Evans), ADAM CLAYTON and LARRY MULLEN JR. Four boys who started to play rock back in 1976, that is almost 35 years ago.And they are still playing. And guess what, they are doing it better and better.
It is hard to write about U2 in just few words. It's not only  about their music which is MAGNIFICENT. It's also about the charity actions they are involved in and the powerful message of peace, love, equality and unity the lyrics of their songs transmit. Almost every song of U2's is a symbol, a song which gravitates around a certain topic or it is dedicated to a great person from the past or present. One of the most powerful songs is PRIDE (IN THE NAME OF LOVE). It  is dedicated to MARTIN LUTHER KING, an amazing man who believed in and peacefully fought to create a world in which black and white people are equal. The lyrics of the song go like this: "Free at last, they took your life/they could not take your pride". MLK was assassinated in Memphis on April 4, 1968, but the four children he left behind lived to see his dream came true.
Another great song is WALK ON. It was written for Aung San Suu Kyi, a woman politician from Burma and a Nobel Prize winner who has been on house arrest for 14 years of the last 20. Her crime? Her democratic party won the elections for Parliament. She may have become the Prime Minister of the country, but the military dictatorship in Burma had her placed under arrest.
U2 have so many incredible tunes that it is very hard to choose from: WITH OR WITHOUT YOU, STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME, STAY, BAD, BEAUTIFUL DAY, KITE, ALL I WANT IS YOU, STUCK IN A MOMENT, LOVE IS BLINDNESS, MISS SARAJEVO, CITY OF BLINDING LIGHTS, MAGNIFICENT, just to name few.
And of course, ONE. An amazing song about love, abandonment, rejection and sufferance all together.  One of the most memorable ballads ever written.
I have been listening to U2 for 15 years.I have always dreamed to see them play live. Two weeks ago my long-time dream came true. Istanbul was the closest U2 has ever come to Romania and I took advantage of that.  It was a tiring trip but it was fully worth it. Even staying in the pouring rain for half an hour before the show. It was the concert of my life. We  managed to be among the first 1000 people to have arrived at the stadium and so, we stayed close to the stage. To see Bono and the other boys within arm's reach is an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life. I wouldn't have been able to see U2 live if it hadn't been for an amazing Turk friend who took care of everything. Istanbul is a wonderful city but to go there and see U2 performing live was more than I could ask for.
I do hope this article-like material convinced you to discover U2. And if it hasn't, U2' s music will surely do it.
