APPALL versus APPEAL 


APPALL = to shock or offend someone very much


e.g. What really appalled us was the racist nature of his speech
e.g. I was appalled when I heard about the salary cut


APPEAL = a quality that something has that makes people like it or want it


e.g. 
Football has popular appeal (=many people enjoy it).
